Multiscale Coherence Intelligence

Structural coherence,
measured at every scale

CMCI is a mathematical framework that detects structural coherence degradation in real time, for multi-agent AI pipelines. Not heuristics. Not keyword matching. Pure dynamical systems theory, with empirically calibrated per-axis thresholds.

CMCI is moving into silicon

The same coherence mathematics that monitors multi-agent AI pipelines in software is now being built as hardware. A dedicated multiscale-coherence processor — a first in its category — that enforces structural integrity directly at the chip level, in real time, with no software overhead.

Architecture

Five parallel Hardware Coherence Units (HCU) compute the CMCI state variables in lockstep, feed an aggregator, and drive a real-time coherence gate — the hardware decides, every cycle, whether to let the signal propagate or hold it.

  • Zynq-class FPGA SoC (ARM + programmable logic)
  • 5 HCU pipelines + aggregator + gate, all on fabric
  • Sub-microsecond decision latency target
  • JTAG / UART / Gigabit Ethernet / GPIO / microSD

Why FPGA first

The dev-board path lets us validate the CMCI hardware pipeline before committing to a custom silicon spin. It preserves capital and proves the math at silicon speed.

  • Dev-board prototype (Zynq-7000 / UltraScale+) — 2026
  • CMCI-on-FPGA proof of concept — HCU + aggregator + gate
  • Real-time coherence gate benchmarked against software engine
  • PCIe co-processor sidecar — CMCI as drop-in accelerator
  • Custom SIUC-CHIP board — only after POC validates

Where this is going

CMCI-FPGA is the first step toward a broader class of coherence-aware computing substrates: motherboards and accelerators that continuously monitor their own structural state, not just their throughput.

◆ The Engine

Cross-layer Multiscale Coherence Intelligence

CMCI measures structural integrity across every level of organization. When coherence degrades at any scale, CMCI detects it — before it becomes critical.

Five State Variables

CMCI tracks five fundamental quantities that govern the structural health of any information stream. These aren't sentiment scores or keyword counts — they're dynamical state variables from complex systems theory.

E
EnergyEpistemic capacity — ability to maintain coherence
S
StabilityEntropy measure — accumulation of structural fragility
C
CoherenceStructural richness — internal order and interconnectedness
T
TensionInter-scale stress — friction between levels of organization
F
FatiguePropagation dynamics — how defects spread through the system

◆ Four Scales

Analysis at every level of organization

CMCI doesn't just measure overall quality. It decomposes structure into four distinct scales, then measures how they interact.

Mi

Micro

Per-observation level. Local coherence of each incoming signal: stability, continuity, regularity. The building blocks of the state trajectory.

Me

Meso

Regime level. Structural organization of the session into identifiable coherence regimes, and the transitions between them.

Ma

Macro

Full-session level. Global transition economy, long-range coherence, and whether the architecture as a whole remains viable.

Tr

Transversal

Cross-scale compatibility. Do micro, meso and macro remain mutually coherent? This is where CMCI is distinctive.

Five Structural Defects

CMCI identifies five distinct failure modes. Each axis is a latent state variable that measures a specific type of structural fragility in multi-agent pipelines.

Attention Dispersion
Agents pulled in many competing directions instead of following one coherent trajectory.
Goal Alignment
Agents quietly diverge from the shared objective before any single one visibly fails.
Decision Stability
Oscillation between choices and revisiting decisions without new information — a hallucination-risk signal.
Strategic Coherence
Local agent actions decouple from the global plan — the system is in transition, not settled.
Cross-role Coordination
Agents stepping on each other's domains instead of working in complementary directions.
◆ Story

From Theory to Framework

Coherix was born from a fundamental question: can structural coherence be measured mathematically? Founded in Montréal, the CMCI framework emerged from dynamical systems theory — applying the mathematics of phase transitions and critical phenomena to information structure. ◆ Breakthrough Concept

The Coherence Window

The central innovation of CMCI. A coherence window defines the viability space where a system maintains structural integrity. When defects push the system outside this window, coherence rupture occurs.

COHERENCE WINDOW (W) Regime A1 — Stable Attention Dispersion Goal Alignment margin (m) Current state Trajectory RUPTURE ZONE RUPTURE ZONE Stable region (A1) Viability boundary Coherence margin (m) System trajectory

The coherence window W is defined as the set of all defect configurations where every defect remains below its critical threshold: W = {D | ∀i: di < δi}. The coherence margin m = minii − di) measures the distance to rupture. When m approaches zero, the system is about to exit the window — CMCI detects this before it happens.

◆ Predictive Intelligence

Transversal Resonance

CMCI doesn't just detect failure — it predicts how it will happen. Transversal resonance analysis tracks oscillations between defects to identify whether energy is accumulating or dispersing.

D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 RESONANCE MATRIX

Predicting how failure happens

Traditional analysis tells you something is wrong. CMCI tells you what kind of wrong, where it's heading, and how fast. The transversal resonance module tracks a 5D velocity vector through defect space and detects oscillation patterns between defect pairs.

When defects oscillate in-phase, energy accumulates — a phase transition is imminent. When they oscillate out-of-phase, energy disperses — the system self-protects. This is the difference between knowing "coherence is dropping" and knowing "the system is about to fragment via scale separation."

Constructive

Defects in-phase. Energy accumulates. Phase transition imminent.

Destructive

Defects out-of-phase. Energy disperses. System self-protects.

Transitional

Mode switching. Resonance pattern is changing — critical observation point.

Silent

Insufficient data. Observation window still accumulating measurements.
